[ooc - sorry 'tis a really short post]
They were together walking down towards the lake. Amri couldn't help feeling slightly nervous. Why so nervous? she asked herself. You were always so confident.
Shrugging off her uneasy feeling she turned to look at Simon beside her. She wondered where they should go - after all as much as Simon was popular she didn't exactly want to be surrounded by people when getting to know him. Her smile slid slowly onto her face and she felt quite suddenly elated. They could just go to the lakeside. She was after all from Aqua and it couldn't do any harm if she did need to show off...
"Can we go down to the lakside? It's nice down there and I prefer walking in the quiet rather than surrounded by people and noise." Her own dark eyes met his purple-hued ones and she almost jumped as she realised that they were indeed quite obviously purple. Why didn't I notice them before..?
Still smiling she stopped and waited for him to reply, once again slipping the pieces of hair that blocked her view behind her ears.

.x. And what's the worst you take... .x.
}} The sun was already quite low in the sky when Simon crossed the grounds, Amri beside him. Although it was only an hour or two after midday, now Winter was on the horizon the day were getting shorter. It was quite sad, thought Simon as he remembered the long days during the Summer. Although back at his home he had no siblings, he and his friends could stay out until ten in the light evenings. Nowadays it meant that he was always finishing last-minute homework by the dim light of the fire in the Aeris common room. Still, he supposed, it was quite cosy when he was the only one left and the moon was up. He smiled wryly; he was turning into quite the romantic these days.
}} As Amri spoke, Simon turned to her. The sunlight was glancing off her skin, accentuating the foreign colour. However, Simon wasn't surprised that she preferred the quiet surroundings of nature to the hustle and bustle of the school or the playing fields. After all, from the snatches of her conversation with Franz and, later, Cirila, he had overheard that she used to live in Greece. It must be nicde to have the constant warm sun and Simon bet they had a lot of long evenings there too. He could picture her in those surroundings, and once again he realised what a strange choice Fantasia had made. Still, with her beauty Amri could go far in their group. Meeting her dark eyes and flashing her a winning smile, he agreed. "The lake it is."
{ ooc. Heh, don't worry, mine isn't too good either =p }

Smiling at his answer she made the mistake of meeting his eyes and immediately dropped her own, flushing slightly. Please don’t notice, she thought desperately and instead of turning to look at him again she started leading the way down towards the lake. Amri herself, however, wasn’t used to staying silent around company and she searched in her mind for a moment for a conversation starter before speaking – carefully avoiding his eyes and hoping it wasn’t too obvious.
“So you don’t like Fantasia…or do you?” The question slipped all too suddenly from her mouth and she immediately winced internally. Nice way to start a conversation…bring up the very topic that he’s probably trying to avoid. The sarcasm dripped heavily off the words.
The evening wind was just coming up now – she could feel winter in the air and mentally cursed that she had not brought a jacket in her bag. Ergh, European weather, she though, slightly disgruntled. Give me sunshine and Greece any day. Her hair was starting to get tangles in it from the wind now and she made a mental note not to go walking at night in a European winter from now on – and why was it getting so dark already?
She suddenly realised that as she had been thinking they had reached the edge of the lake which wasn’t really much of a lake at all. What had seemed to be a large lake of liquid gold in the sunset was actually a rather muddy and quite small excuse for a puddle. Crouching down she ran her fingers lightly through the water, almost caressing it, and feeling the water responding to the power inside her. Water, she decided, was the best element. Or maybe she was just a little biased. ooc - sorry about the wait - i was busy and museless too!

.x. And what's the worst you take... .x.
}} Amri was silent for a short while, and Simon wondered whether he was amking her uncomfortable. What am I doing here? He thought with slight unease. However, he kept his gait to a casual stroll; he didn't want give Amri any offish vibes. But in his mind, he was contemplating his situation. Should he continue to ignore Fantasia? Should he have followed her? Should he have followed Franz? Instead, he was here, walking with a girl who he hadn't known until a moment ago but whom would probably become very tempting very soon. The way the sunlight glanced off her hair was certainly very pretty. Simon's gaze was, at present, resting on the grassy floor. The wind tousled his hair and he reached up to pet it with irritation. However, he knew that with Winter so close, he woukld be receiving a lot more than that. Time to swap to waterproof gel, it seemed.
}} Then, suddenly, Amri spoke. Simon would have perhaps been ready for smalltalk, if indeed she had chosen to use it. However, she had asked the one thing that had been giving Simon a headache since... well, since only about half an hour previously. Simon wondered why she had brought it up, but couldn't blame her for being confused about the whole situation. He sighed lightly and turned to look at her again, a half-smile painting his face. "Y'know, it's complicated.." he began, and then realised he was speaking to her as though she was a child. She was one of them now, he realised. "Yes. I like her. But I like a lot of people." Simon laughed. He wasn't sure how much to divulge to Amri, but figured she'd probably already know about his reputation as a "lady's man". "Anyway," he said airily, "She likes Franz. Or did." He feigned puzzlement, but it was soon replaced by another smile.
}} They had reached the lake, and since the sun was already low in the sky, it was a pool of gold ripples. Well, maybe not quite, but it certianly looked better now than it did during the morning, when the murky waters were less enticing. As it was, Simon actually was finding it quite relaxing, being out here. Usually, he much preferred the bustle of people, where he could laugh and be around the centre of attention without actually being it. It was probably just because he'd had enough of his friends for one day, he mused. He realised then that Amri had bent down, and had one hand in the water. He remembered that she was a water elemental then. It was strange to think that she could only feel complete when she was here, wheras he had that all the time in the air. He crouched with her, leaning his head on his knee and gazing over the water. "Looks pretty nice this time of day, doesn't it?"

"I guess it does look rather nice." And indeed it did look nice if one did not examine it too closely. In fact, it was most likely the close connection with water Amri had that kept her from enjoying the view and led her to instead glance distastefully into the water at the mud and dirt swirling around in it. Simon had crouched down next to her, he too staring across the water, although he seemed much more impressed by the view than she was. The rather cold water swirled around her hand, small ripples spreading from where her hand made contact with the water's surface.
She shivered lightly as the breeze rushed past them both, disturbing the entire surface of the lake so it appeared as one quivering mass of light. She combed her fingers through her hair for a few moments, staring slightly absent-mindedly with a small smile laid across her features trying to disentagle the ebony strands the wind had snarled around the silver links of her necklace.
"Is it always this cold in winter here?" Amri turned back to Simon's face, questioning. If the answer was yes, she though distastefully, she knew she would have to get some warmer clothing for her time at Ludus. And she hated shopping for winter clothes - it was so boring.

.x. And what's the worst you take... .x.
}} "'Fraid so," Simon replied, "Well, most of the time. Doesn't last long though, usually." He grimaced. However, having lived with these conditions all his life, Simon was quite used to the cold. And anyway, he had his trusty coat to see him through tough weather. As a little boy, he had used to love Winter because it brought snow with it. He'd had lots of friends even as a child, and because his garden was biggest they'd used to come and tumble about in the snow with him. Although, it had rarely snowed enough to be able to make snowmen or even decent snowballs, and Simon knew that down here the temperature wouldn't even drop low enough for a little bit of snow. Which was a shame, because he was sure he could thrash Franz in a snowball fight.
}} "So what d'ya think of the group so far?" Simon questioned. He didn't want to pry too much, but he found himself curious as to how their crowd would look to an outsider, as it were. And Amri seemed like a nice girl; she wasn't going to say anything too bad about any of them, was she? Anyway, their group had diminished amazingly in the past couple of years. Now, only four of them made up the core of the group; five to include Amri. Simon knew that Fantasia was always on the lookout for new souls to capture. This made Simon smile; Fantasia really was very good at keeping everyone's views of her in the good zone. The teachers loved her, the artsy group loved her.. Simon had no idea how she managed to keep up with herself.
}} He glanced sideways at Amri, wondering what she was thinking. She was so quiet; Simon was used to being in with people who just said things, not bothering to think about them or what effect they might have. That was their - and his - way of doing things. Secrets were pointless in his society because he liked people to know about him. Simon could not remember a serious secret he'd kept. He shrugged inwardly and ran a hand through his hair, focussing on the view again. That was another problem with Simon; his short attention span meant that he couldn't concentrate on things for long. It seemed to be the same with relationships, he thought with amusement.

"Great." The sarcasm was evident in her tone as Simon responded with the opposite to what she wished for. "It doesn't last long? Good. I'm not used to the cold."
She directed her gaze back to the golden light reflecting off the lake's surface but it was not long before Simon broke the silence again this time with a question. "So what d'ya think of the group so far?"
That, she concluded, was a good question that she needed to actually think about. On one hand they evidently were liked by the staff of the school and it was obvious they were quite secure in social status but, in other ways? What with all the conflict between the girls fighting over boys and the boys being spiteful towards eachother in order to 'snag' yet another girl... Did she want to be a part of that? What did she think of the group?
"Hmm, I guess a good phrase to desribe 'the group' as you call it would be completely unpredictable!" She let a little laughter into her speech so he could see she wasn't accusing anyone. “It seems really complicated, actually,” she admitted, smiling.

.x. And what's the worst you take... .x.
}} Simon was quite surprised that Amri seemed to have grasped them so quickly. He felt mildy defensive at her tone at first, although when she laughed he realised that she was simple speculating, as a new person. Simon could not remember the day he first properly joined the group. It had been in his first or second year, he thought, when he had first started hanging out with them. And it had been more official when he had started dating some of its members, before it had dwindled to just Fantasia and Cirila. Still, he'd been out with both of those too, which had basically secured his position. Amri was quite right in saying it was unpredictable, and he nodded in agreement at this comment. However, he wasn't so sure about complicated. "I don't know," he began, "It's actually really quite simple. Nothing lasts for too long, and even though we're always changing, you don't have to concentrate on anything but the present."
}} That was it, in his eyes. Once the past was past, you could forget it because if they had to keep track of all their relationships and arguements they would have stopped being friends a long time ago. It was similar with the future; if you thought too much about what you were going to do with your life you couldn't properly enjoy what you were doing right this second. Simon loved living each day of his life in the perfect way, without having to consider too many consequences. Of course, when things came to a head like they had today, there would always be consequences. And although Simon had not experienced such a scene before, he had no doubt that it had happened, and that the group, however changed, had survived it. He smiled. "I think it's a good life," he said, musing, "But I've always been one for.. adventure."
}} Simon stood up, stretching his limbs. They had not been out long, but the breeze made it seem like it had been longer because the cold was already seeping through Simon's layers. He wasn't all that good at dressing practically. Style, and not comfort, usually mattered but it was at times like these that he regretted never taking people's advice on what to wear. Still, if it meant he was able to spend half an hour on a walk with a pretty girl, then who cared what he was wearing? Anyway, Amri was probably feeling it worse than him, coming from the Mediterranean. Simon knew very little about the area except that it was warm. He had never been very interested, or very talented, in geography. He glanced at Amri. "It's been nice," he commented, now looking at his surroundings.

"It's been nice." Simon stood and stretched and Amri followed suit, still quite cold. It's been nice what? she though quizzically but did not let her slight confusion show on her face. Rather, she just nodded.

.x. And what's the worst you take... .x.
}} Amri stood up. She was quite small compared to him, though Simon was used to being taller than most of his friends. Franz, perhaps, was the only one who could top him in that respect. And maybe a couple of people in the year above. Simon always found it strange that there were no final years in the current 'popular crowd'. He had dated a few, and some had came and gone, but it seemed that the people in the year above just had no fun. Fantasia and he and Franz would change that next year. However, Simon was not looking forward to it; his school days had been some of the best and although university sounded cool, he was savouring his days in Ludus Elementum. Not that he couldn't manage without this secluded environment, he assured himself. He'd do just fine in the real world.
}} He turned to look at Amri. She had nodded at his earlier comment, though her mind was obviously on other things. The sunlight was still glancing off her dark hair in the most pretty way. And her eyes... there was something wistful and wonderful in them. Why did she always look so forlorn? It was only when she properly smiled that the joy lit up her whole face. Although Simon was often attracted to blonde, conventionally-pretty, out-going girls, he couldn't deny that Amri was an amazing girl. And she was so tempting, when they were here all alone. Simon took a step towards her, and before he had time to think himself out of it, he had hooked two fingers under her chin and was gently lifting her head. He had to bend slightly, but Simon was used to kissing girls shorter than him.
}} His lips met hers, and Simon was lost in the sweet serenity that tended to come whenever he kissed someone he really wanted to kiss. However, as Simon's hands found their way to the small of Amri's back, he realised she had probably had no idea of his intentions. He drew away, though only by a few inches, to meet her gaze with his bright violet eyes. There was a hint of a question in his gaze; was this what she wanted? Simon wasn't sure he could stop himself anyway.

All she had done was gone to turn back and face him and then everything had happened to fast. His hand had slid gently under her chin, his other hand finding the small of her back and his lips had met hers But she hadn't had time to react before he had drawn back all too soon. She felt breathless - never before had she felt so alive - and she longed for the feeling again.
Her eyes raked over his appearance once more, taking in every breathtaking detail. She had barely known him for more that a few hours properly, he was supposed to be with Fantasia of all people right now and yet she was quite sure that this was no mistake.
She saw in his eyes his questioning - is this what you want? - and she sound it so easy to answer. Yes. She stepped closer to him, closing the distance between them in a small step. "Don't stop this time, alright?" she whispered to him, dark eyes shining slightly, and then met his lips with hers. Elation returned and she kissed him back this time, revelling in the joy that overtook her whenever she felt this way about someone. She wrapped her arms about his neck, pressing her body into him, wanting more and more.
I told him don't stop. she thought. And she hoped that this kiss would be enough to tell him that she had meant for him to never, ever stop.

.x. And what's the worst you take... .x.
}} Simon was teetering on the edge of a mental abyss, it seemed. Stop here and he'd miss out the oppurtunity of Amri, but he couldn't help but think it would drag him into something that could get messy. However, Simon had never been very good at thinking of the future, and tended to jump into a lot of abysses. Amri was nice comfort in the cold breeze, anyway, and although he was cautious that she might still feel rather uncomfortable around him, he didn't loosen his hold on her. But, something seemed to click in her gaze, and Simon was almost surprised when she moved even closer, and within seconds his lips were occupied again. Simon smiled inwardly, it being rather impossible on the outward front.
}} Her arms entwined around his neck, and Simon wondered fleetingly if she had kissed a lot of guys. She certainly wasn't shy or in any way new to it. Still, it wasn't like Simon cared; he was gracious enough to accept that he wasn't going to be her first. Still, he was quite enjoying himself. After all, Fantasia would no doubt go crawling back to Franz after a couple of days and then what? Then Amri, he thought. Shame about the ball, but he wasn't ready to let go of Fantasia quite yet. Simon let the kiss last for a few long moments, loving every second. He was reluctant to break it, but he didn't want Amri to think he was ready to drop everything and go right at this minute. Things might take a ittle time to figure out, and he guessed she probably knew that, despite their obvious desires. He pulled away and looked at her for a few more moments, reaching up a hand to stroke her hair. A classic move, but one that made things seem more personal. Then, moving away, he let the cold air rush between them, and shivered slightly. "It's cold," he murmered, "Shall I walk you back to the school?" He let his hand slip into hers, and turned, starting back across the grass towards the main school building.
